yes lots of issues. thats why toyota discontinued it. even tho they are still putting those motors in pretty much all their cars. 
tc, xb2, matrix/vibe and rolla. and older camrys

My mother's highlander has a 2az in it.  You know, the one that had to be torn apart and helicoiled?

2az is fail in my book.

oh yea its in the highlander and rav4

but yea the motor is good stock. anything eelse to it...
but my friends is turbo'd and its soooo nice

05-06 was what i had. i know they added some oil injectors in the block in 07+ along

Up until 2004, the head bolts that kept the head on the block were too strong and would strip their way out, causing coolant leakage, and loss of combustion pressure.  (Or sludge buildup.)
