Request: Wiring fogs as DRL instead of low beams

The How To is on MO, but the links and pics are all dead.

Anyone else have either this, or a method of making the front signal lights the DRL like a lot of cars come factory with?

Thanks in advance!

Im wondering the same thing actually. Could you just cut the red wire that turns off the DRL and wire the fog lights to the red wire?!

No.  You can't.  You need to add a relay.

If you can wait, I'm doing the same thing on my car for my HID install which I began yesterday and will complete over the next few weekends.  I'll do a writeup then.

yeah, I was thinking the same thing and I think what you would have to do is get something like a relay harness for HIDs (or make your own with a regular relay) and instead of hooking up signal wires to the oem harness you just hook the neg to ground and the positive to the red wire you cut and the signal should be sent to whatever light you want to use the DRLs to turn on and off. That and you could also wire a switch between the red wire and the harness and be able to control the DRL signal.

I've fallen a bit behind on it since one of the calipers I replaced last year are leaking.  I had a warranty one sent out to replace it, and it leaked too!

So I'll have to do another replacement when the new one arrives this week.

It'll be put up, just take a little while. Smiley

I know; but I haven't had much luck: my clutch died Friday, so the car is sitting in my garage until next weekend.  And the HIDs I got and was planning to do the install on were bad, so I'm waiting on their replacement.

I actually just re-read your initial post, and the plan I have is to implement the DRFL mod (make the fog lights the DRLs.)

Surely you don't mean the actual parking lights as DRLs, do you?  (That's illegal in most places that require DRLs.)

I'd still like to know how to make the fog lights into the DRLs.
I have a relay - maybe you can help wire it up for me? (When I get my car back, of course)

I went in and talked to the shop manager. He showed me the car and told me exactly what was being done. He said he hoped it would be finished by this friday, but I doubt it  Cry

I printed that out a long time ago and did this mod. Let me see if I can find it. I have an idea where it might be.

I've done this twice now since this thread was created and haven't taken pictures.  I'm an asshole.  I'll see what I can do soon.

(in the meantime, all of the pending howtos have been moved to howtos.)
